Tony Salopek has committed to the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown

Tony Salopek, a senior at Steel Valley High School has committed to the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown on a wrestling scholarship.  Tony wrestled for West Mifflin Area the past four years via a co-op with Steel Valley and will continue his success on the mat at the Division II powerhouse.  Going into his senior wrestling season at West Mifflin, he has produced a 74-40 career record, including a 27-13 mark last season as a junior.  He is a defending champion at the Steve DeAugustino Holiday Classic and a three time Section Runner-Up/Regional Qualifier.  In addition, Tony was also a two time Team PA representative at Freestyle and Greco Roman Nationals.  In his most recent competition, he won the 152 pound bracket at the traditionally strong Lock Haven Fall Classic. The team captain was also selected to the Pennsylvania All Academic First Team by the PA Wrestling Coaches Association.  Ranked near the top of his class, he earned Honors with Distinction each year of his high school career.

Outside of the classroom and the wrestling room, Tony lettered for one season in football.  He was also a three year member of the soccer team and was a team captain.  This season, he was named to the All Section Team.
